More polished than a typical mule.
The black upper gives this a much cleaner appearance than most open-back shoes. It works well with dark trousers and does not look like something meant only for wearing around the house.

The all-black finish keeps the design restrained, but the sole is still thicker than a traditional leather mule. I like the added structure, although it is clearly a modern rather than classic silhouette.
